Premier Storage doubles merchant distribution capacity with cantilever rackingLewis Dowson
Cantilever Racking Project in Hull
Premier Storage and Office Solutions are delighted to have completed work at SCA Wood UK Ltd, having a 20-acre site with a 400,000 square foot production and distribution facilities in Melton, Hull.
SCA Wood, which manufactures and distributes timber and associated products for the home improvement and builders’ merchant sector, has invested over half a million pounds in racking, lighting and technology to support its new distribution model.
Premier Storage beat off stiff competition to supply SCA Wood Ltd with the full design and fit of Cantilever racking for its 270,000 square feet warehouse. The £300,000+ contract has seen Premier Storage’s Key Account Manager, Francesca Gormley designed 3876 levels of Cantilever with rack end protection and barcode and location labelling facilities.
Using heavy-duty racking, which, unlike its competitors, is capable of holding heavy loads without attracting a heavy cost, Frankie and her team of 8 men took 6 weeks to install the racking, giving SCA one of the best cantilever storage system in the group.
When asked how Frankie managed to win the prestigious job, she said “We have been working with SCA Wood for several years, providing them with racking inspections and parts and labour for the warehouse. We consulted closely with SCA to offer a quick turn-round on a bespoke set up that provided the company with extra timber storage capacity. Our expertise and experience in installing this type of system meant that we were able to easily manage the installation safely within the current Covid 19 onsite restrictions.
What the Client said after we completed the project
Jan Gritter of SCA said
“We have been working on our new distribution model, which replicates our product range in our Welshpool and Cumbernauld merchant operations,”
“The remodelling required us to invest in the site to allow us to deliver direct to the customer, as opposed to delivering in bulk, which required us to install racking systems as well as upgrading lighting and wi-fi for warehouse management technology for picking,” he added.
SCA has been working with DHL Business Solutions to fully understand the logistic implications for this development, which means that its product range can be delivered to any of its merchant customers from either Cumbernauld, Welshpool and now, Melton.
“I am pleased we were able to remodel Melton to satisfy the future strategy of our business and to double the capacity to supply the merchant market,” said John Griffiths, managing director for SCA Wood. “We are excited by this change, which we know will further support our customers’ needs and allow us to deliver our long term business plan.
